The Marshfield High School Dance Team won the state
championship for 4A small division at the OSAA Dance and Drill
competition on March 20, 2006. This is the second state championship
for seniors Amanda Johnson, Amy Woods, Jasmine Wynn, Katherine Davenport
and Noelle Caffey, a tremendous accomplishment in ones competitive high
school career. These five young ladies lead their team this year with
their amazing work ethic, discipline and attitudes. Captains Amanda and
Amy choreographed and taught most of the dances the team performed this
year. They set high standards for their team and helped everyone to
achieve them. This state championship was well earned by everyone on
this team.
The dance was both lyrical and jazz. The team performed to
the song Over and Over by Puff Johnson. Our theme was “Fighting On” which
represented the struggles of the year, losing teammates, not always placing
first, keeping our chins up and “fighting on” until the very last time we
performed together.
State Competition Dance Team Members: Captains Amanda Johnson
and Amy Woods, Jasmine Wynn, Katherine Davenport, Noelle Caffey, Bianca
Widdicombe, Hannah Cooney, Meghann Townsend, Amanda Hartley, Leslie Silver,
Carly Carew, Chloe Danielson and Clara Diaz.
Amanda Johnson was also selected to the OSAA All-State Dance
Team. District honors are not given out in dance. Instead the top 20-30
dancers in the state are selected from a group of qualifying seniors at an
audition in Jan. This year Marshfield had 4 dancers who qualified for this
audition: Katherine Davenport, Amanda Johnson, Amy Woods and Bianca
Widdicombe. Katherine, Amanda and Amy made it to call backs for the top 50
dancers in the state with Amanda making final selection to the team.
Congratulations Upbeats!! I will miss this team!
