Note: * State championships prior to 1943 were unofficial. Teams scheduled post season
games on their own to determine who was best in state.  In 1942, two teams
remained undefeated at the end of the post season, Marshfield and Klamath
Falls.  Klamath Falls refused to play a  title match.  Both teams are
considered co-champions, although it is doubtful that Klamath Falls could have
                beat the Pirates..
Marshfield was part of District 3 from around 1945 to 1950.  Marshfield became part
               of District 5 in 1951
Until 1977, only the league champion went to the state playoffs.  In the case of
a co -championship, the head to head winner went to state
In 1977 and 1978, two teams per league went to the state playoffs
Since 1979, three or four teams per league have qualified for the state
               playoffs.
Four teams per league qualified annually until a ninth league was
               formed.
When the ninth league was added, a playoff schedule was established
whereby four leagues per year send only  three teams to the playoffs.  The other
five leagues send four teams.   The playoff schedule is rotated so that leagues with
more than six teams send four teams roughly two out of three years.  Leagues
know in advance of each season how many teams will go to state.
Endowment games started in 2005.  Teams could choose to play a 10th regular season game.  The
proceeds of the game were split between the school and the OSAA.
Prior to the 2006-7 school year, the OSAA reclassified schools into six Divisions from 4 Divisions.
4A was formerly made up of the 80 largest schools in Oregon.  The new biggest Division, 6A, is
comprised of about 40 schools.  Marshfield became a member of the 5A Division, also made up of
               about 40 schools.

        Calculating winning percents with ties:
Add up all the games to get a total amount played. Then divide the number of games won by the total number played.

For instance, if a team went 9-5-1, you'd add up 9+5+1 = 15.

In order to add in the tied game, you break it into halves. Since a tie is neither a win nor a loss, you break each tie into 1/2 a win, 1/2 a loss.

So, you'd add half a win to the total wins: 9.5 divided by 15 total games.

The winning percentage of a 9-5-1 record would be .633 (or 63%).
