Ensembles

 

Symphonic Band

 

The core ensemble of the Marshfield Instrumental Music program, the Symphonic Band performs challenging concert literature frequently at concerts and festivals throughout the year. Members of the Symphonic Band are also expected to perform as the main body of the Marching and Pep Bands. Private lessons are highly encouraged and weekly sectionals are required of members.

 

Jazz Band

 

The Jazz Band is a full 17+ piece big band performing advanced literature of all jazz styles, as well as frequently traveling to festivals throughout the year. The group meets every weekday at 7am. Jazz Band entry is by audition only.

 

Marching Ensemble

 

The Marshfield High School Marching Band is a group which performs at many public events including home football games and parades. The Marching Band is co-curricular, and membership is required of all band students unless by arrangement. All members are required to attend band camp in August, and all outside rehearsals.

 

Colorguard

 

The MHS Colorguard, under the direction of Mary Wargo and Tammy Simmons, is an auxiliary ensemble and part of the Marching Band. The Colorguard performs at all marching events including home football games and parades. Colorguard entry is by audition only.

 

Pep Band

 

The Pep Band is an ensemble which performs popular music at sports events, assemblies, and various other school-wide activities, and rehearses as needed. The Pep Band is co-curricular, and membership is required of all band students.

 

Percussion Class

 

The percussion class is broken into two sections; beginning and advanced. The Beginning Percussion Class focuses on basic skills such as proper stick technique, music reading, rhythm counting, and ensemble techniques on a wide variety of percussion instruments. The Advanced Percussion Class is designed for students wanting to be a part of a serious percussion ensemble. In this course, students develop their skills and perform advanced percussion literature.

 

Guitar Class

 

This one trimester course is designed for the student not currently involved in music that wishes to play guitar. In this beginner level course, students learn basic skills such as tuning, reading music, rhythm counting, and strumming. Chord and note playing skills are covered. Students must provide their own instruments (acoustic guitars are preferred).
